Questions about paring RAM.
August 17th, 2020
I also have a bunch of Corsair sticks sitting around, it’s the VS2GB1333D3, that’s the model.
I’m sure that is also 9-9-9-24 and 1.5V, and 1333MHZ. The corsairs are 2GB in size each, so if I combine it all and max out my slots I’ll have 12GB.
Is this safe?
We really need to know what mobo you have to answer completely.
Sure. Assuming your mobo can read it, of course.
I would put the 2 Kingston sticks in slot 1 and 3 and the other two Corsair sticks in slot 2 and 4.
Your indicators will be a) computer boots up and runs ok (if so it works). b) you don’t get blue screens with memory errors.
As the guys said above really depends on your Motherboard.
Sounds like it should work ok. Like the others said, check the mobo layout for which slots should be paired together, then put the 4gb sticks as one pair and the 2gb as another pair.
Yes, install the memory in pairs and as mentioned here..
http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/d/dual-chan-memory.htm
In other words a 4GB and a 2GB in one chan (one coloured slots) and the same in the other (other coloured slots)..
This way it may, if you are lucky, still work in dual chan mode, as it does with just the 2 x 4GB sticks.
Otherwise you have to put up with a bit slower, single chan memory (You still get 12GB)
or buy 2 more 4GB sticks the same as what you have now.
It’ll either work or not – given that the voltages are the same, you won’t damage anything.
Try them and be prepared for success or failure.
Example – My laptop works on 8 G kingston OR 8G corsair – but not any combination of both.

And this is my mobo.
Page 16 of the mobo manual says:
Memory - 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory
- Dual chan memory architecture
- Support for DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules
- To support a DDR3 1866 MHz (and above) memory, you must install an AM3+ CPU first.
Due to CPU limitations, read the following guidelines before installing the memory in Dual Chan mode.
1. Dual Chan mode cannot be enabled if only one DDR3 memory module is installed.
2. When enabling Dual Chan mode with two or four memory modules, it is recommended that memory
of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used and installed in the same colored DDR3
sockets for optimum performance. For optimum performance, when enabling Dual Chan mode
with two memory modules, we recommend that you install them in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 sockets.
So basically if socket 1&3 should be the same, 2&4 should be the same.
If 1&3 are different RAM (still DDR3) than 2&4, you won’t get optimal performance but it will work.
4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory
It should work.
