Answer #1
Open Command Prompt as administrator, then type diskpart, press enter, then type list disk, enter again, then type select disk (enter number of external drive from list), then enter, then type clean, then enter again, exit command prompt.
Then go to Disk management and select the disk and Windows should prep and format it, it should now show full size. (If drive doesn’t show do a quick restart).
Answer #2

Answer #3

Answer #4
done that mate on cmd the drive size is 55g but after a format its 3.65 ???
Answer #5
Got to my computer, right click on the drive and select format, there should be drop down boxes that show capacity and File system, below that is a box with Restore device defaults, click on that.
Answer #6
done that mate did the long format too still no joy
Answer #7
Go back to Disk Management, what size for the partition, is there any unallocated space?
Answer #8
doesnt say anything about a partition says drive online 55g
yet in my computer the drive shows 3.65g
Answer #9
Next to where it shows drive online 55gb it should have a bar view with e.g Local (D: ) Healthy (Primary Partition), this will show the partition size and any unallocated space.
Answer #10
disk list show disk 2 online size 55g free 55g dont mention partitions
Answer #11

Try diskpart again as per link, never had to use extend command myself.
Answer #14
You should create a new partition table. Follow these steps http://sa-blog.azurewebsites.net/post/2013/03/18/cleanup-corrupt-partition-table
Answer #15
no i dont get given that option why wont the pc reconise its 55g but cmd will
What option does it give, maybe it needs to be initialized first, see if that’s the case.
Answer #16
Other thoughts, have you rebooted or safely removed drive and reconnected it to let Windows pick it up again?
Try EasUs Partition Master(or Mini Tool Partition Wizard) I’ve had drives unresponsive to disk management but have responded to that, or connect the drive internally as they respond a whole lot better than connected externally.
@Jack, the My Computer showing 3.75GB after diskpart clean would indicate some initialization occurred as it wouldn’t show otherwise, but being external drive means jack (no offence), plus 60GB means its no spring chicken either.
