Any good games with low spec requirements?

August 5th, 2016

After being a little “fed up” with all those high-end games that need a monster of a PC to run in decent graphics and the overwhelming boredom, I decided to ask if somebody knows some good games (don’t have any preferences about genres) that don’t require a $1000+ PC.
It’d be better if the proposed games were indie ones, though I won’t mind if there’s a huge publisher like, say, EA or Activision
Thanks in advance.

try hacked flash games, plenty of free blogs full with a huge variety of them

No games actually need a $1000 pc to be played (unless they are really, really, REALLY, poorly optimized) What are the specs of your machine?

This, you don’t necessarily need a super PC to play a lot of games. Check at CYRI for minimum game requirements, also look here for GOG games, some light gems there. Oh, and since I’m a strategy fan, go for age of empires series, Civ IV + mods or Endless Legend ; they all are great. If you are an FPS player, check Blacklight Retribution, buggy but with very addictive gameplay.

It REALLY depends – if you want to run games on a 8 year old P2 then you’re more limited than if you want them to run on a more modern Intel i3.
Try looking at things like Beyond Good and Evil, Psychonauts, Planescape Torment..
The older £D games like COD, Gothic, Morrowind, Oblivion… Hell, even Borderlands 1 and 2 ran fine on my i3 laptop!

The situation has changed a lot. Years ago every year brought games that needed a new PC. Nowadays the requirement of powerful computers is not the same of the past. You could buy an high end pc in 2012 and be still able to play a 2015 game at decent settings. Without knowing your specs I can’t give you a precise answer but I can safely tell you that you have plenty of choice. Try browsing metacritic and check high scoring games.

$1000 is a metaphor . By this, I meant that you need a really beefy pc to play some games (like GTA V) at decent quality.
Specs:
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo @2.4GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS (640 MB)
RAM: 2 GB DDR2 @ 800MHz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit
As you can see, with these very basic -for 2015- specs I can play some -relatively recent- games (2011-2012) but the graphics quality really is an eyesore. But I guess I’ ll try some of these in the coming days, just for the heck of it
Anyway, thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Cya soon!
@Jack_Torrance: Checking out BL:R, looks neat..

GTA V might, might actually run on that machine. maybe. You could try any source based games, they’re generally very good. Then there’s Bioshock, Mirrors Edge, Fallout 3, Spec Ops the Line, Papers Please is an interesting choice, company of heroes, mass effect series, assassin’s creed II, World in Conflict, to name several And almost every game on the PC that is also found on the Xbox 360 or PS3
