MSI HD 6870/oc temps are correct or aren’t they?

March 2nd, 2014

Hi all,
I don’t know if my GPU temps are correct or if the sensor is faulty.
Even after an overclock from 920/1050 to 1000/1175 (I also increased my voltage from 1.2V to 1.3V) my GPU temps are barely over 60°C. (never got over 62)
In all the posts about overclocking this card i noticed that their temps where way higher then mine. (75°C-90°C)
Can it be that my stock cooler is just way better or what? Or maybe my sensor is broken?
Here is a link to my GPU:

PS: 60°C is about 140°F
Thanx on advantage

if your having no display problems then don’t worry
it may be that your cooler is better

At idle, you won’t notice a difference. You need to do a benchmark to see if your OC is stable. If you overclocked too much, it will reset during the benchmark and you gotta re-do the OC.

The temps that I posted are after a couple hours of gaming. When running Furmark the temps go up to 75 degrees

Check the manafactures website to see what the ideal temps are. Then if its miles out i could be the temp sensor!
Answer #5
temps are just fine. that is a factory oced version so it comes with custom heatsink accordignly to the product… usually my 6870 sitted at 68 – 70 celsius under load (sapphire vanilla) … no wonder that your msi has those temps

That sounds like the sensors are all good…and you will have no problems gaming.

The sensors are fairly useless though, they don’t tell you the VRM temps.
Even if your video card’s core is cool, your VRM’s will bloat on the card if the temps are crazy enough.
The cooler design you have can keep the core cool enough, however its blasting its hot air inside the case and you know what that means.
Yes the hot air will be going to the other components.
