Math issue

July 28th, 2013

Ok
It’s 8am and realised i better work out the average price of my shares i paid for a dog company i bought into middle of last year.
I am totally hopeless at maths :/
here it goes
Call the company DOG. I bought and sold shares so many times that now im totally confused after it did a restructure of it’s shares. I need to find out the average cost per share …
here it goes:
1) Buy: 80,617 shares @ 0.070c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $5,661.33)
2) Buy: 60,079 shares @ 0.080c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $5,464.46)
3) Sold: 80,617 shares @ 0.0830c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $6,673.07)
4) Buy: 63,255 shares @ 0.0860c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $5,458.07)
5) Sold: 77,988 shares @ 0.0850c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $6,610.84)
6) Buy: 78,484 shares @ 0.0840c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $6,610.80)
7) Sold: 131,830 shares @ 0.0880c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $11,582.90)
8) Buy: 132,928 shares @ 0.0870c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $11,582.88)
9) Buy 66,795 shares @ 0.07557c per share (Total Amount /w including brokerage: $5,309.96) – This one i bought in a different currency and had to exchange in today’s dollar value. I am not even sure if they have put it into one holding yet..
Then there was a 1:10 share consolidation…. so at the moment it says i have 17,807 shares and because of the consolidation it has stuffed my average price work out :/
So my question is how much shares do i own now and what is the average cost of those shares? Can you please include you workings with number 9 trade in it and one without. This will give me an idea whether number 9 trade had been accounted for.
Thanks
any help is much appreciated…

Answer #1
Yes, the numbers don’t seem to add up to that.
Using the above info, you have would have 191723 shares pre-consolidation or 19172 after consolidating. However, your cost per share is not tied to the consolidation, it is just what you actually paid per share, and based on the info you provided it’s about .081c per share (not counting brokerage costs). Here is a quick spreadsheet I made up for you

The thing to be aware of with the consolidation is that if you aren’t able to sell those shares at 10x what you paid for them pre-consolidation, you’re taking a loss. Meaning you need to be able to sell for around .81c per share. Have a look here:

Good luck with everything!
