How to rip a laptop and its contents including sofware?
December 18th, 2013
Can anyone help me with the following?
– How can i rip the original windows (Vista) setup that came inbuilt and save it on to another hard disk for further use?
– How can i find out if the hard disk is still in working condition and and use it as a secondary for my other laptop or PC?
– Any other parts that i can remove and make use of or save for future use (eg. RAM, CD-Drive, etc.)?
Please help and thanks in advance!!
Yeh you can take out the ram and HDD and the monitors screen and keyboard etc. possibly even the CPU depending on if it’s soldered on there or not.
You can salvage the hard drive by just taking it out and plugging it into a working computer as a second drive and read it as a data disc.

Do you expect me to know exactly what your question is without you telling me?
Afraid i’m not that good.
And if you were wondering if you can boot from the vista on it on another computer then the answer is no. You will need a new install of vista. (make it windows 7 as it’s slightly better)
OK… any ideas on how i can remove the hard disk and use it at as an external hard disk? Plus can i detach the CD Drive and the RAM and use them on another computer?

Just open it up and take them out dood!

Again, just take the sticks out! However, you can’t just stick RAM in any computer, it has to match the motherboard specifications, and if there is already RAM installed, it would have to match the RAM already installed. I am guessing its an older PC, probably DDR2, which won’t work in any new systems.
to detach the HDD , just simply remove the screws on the bottom of laptop. As for the DVD Drive, its the same process however, its usually a bit more pain in the arse to get to all the screws to remove it. The easiest things to get would be HDD & RAM.
The RAM is for laptops. so you wont be putting it in a desktop PC.
No i don’t intend to fix it to my PC. I’m considering putting it on SONY Vaio. But since its already got one HDD fixed to it how can i attach the the other HDD?
Most laptops have room for only a single HDD so you cannot,Not as an internal at least,You could however get a 2.5″ external
enclosure and use it as an external,But first you’d have to determine which interface it uses (SATA/IDE),Just Google the model
that appears on it’s sticker if unsure.
Edit: Just to verify,You were referring to a VAIO Laptop,Right?
You could put in another laptop as a second internal drive if you can switch it with the DVD drive.
Depends on the laptop really and connection types obviously.

Yes i want to use the HDD as an external for my SONY-VAIO. And is there any way i can fix the removed RAMs to my VAIO as well? Just to make it run faster…
And were you actually refering to a casing of this kind?

The HDD that i salvaged is a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160 GB. The model no. is ST9160821AS. I would like to use it as a USB HDD.
