so if i get a disc with ubuntu and just load it it will install and i can still use my win 7?
There is a program in the Ubuntu iso called wubi.exe. Extract that to the same directory the iso is in and run it. It will install Ubuntu into a file but will allow you to dual boot into it aswell.
you can use an installer that will do all the work of installing ubuntu alongside your existing win installation
