windows 7 problems

August 6th, 2016

Hello ,
I recently installed windows 7 on my laptop and it`s an older model laptop. My laptop is a dell inspiron 1150 series which originally had xp installed on it from the manufacturer. The problem is that I am having problems with the resolution. I cannot adjust the resolution any higher than 640 x 480 megapixels b/c there is no other resolution setting options and the images being displayed are so big that they go off the screen and I cannot even press ok or apply on most windows when I am making setting adjustments for different things b/c the window is halfway off the page. Is there anyway to fix this issue and somehow restore other resolution settings on my laptop or is it just simply that windows 7 is not compatible with my laptop b/c it is an older model and there is nothing else that I can do? Please someone help me if you know of any solutions. Thanks

dont think i can help you much… but can tell you that when i install win7 it installs the screen as clone… So i need to go in and remove the other(there is none) screen in the options… maybe you can slide your way in there and look if thats the issue-. But like i said… actually doubt it.

Ok thanks but how do I get to that section? Do I right-click the desktop and go to properties?
Answer #3
Windows 7 should’ve automatically set the resolution to the recommended one. Perhaps you didn’t re-install your graphics drivers? Without them you can’t change resolution.
Answer #4
right click desktop and click screen resolution
Answer #5
I did try reinstalling my graphics drivers but it didn`t work and I think it`s b/c it`s drivers for xp. Also I did click screen resolution gh0st.post but all I see is “Generic PnP monitor on standard vga graphics adapter” and it shows one resolution setting of 640 x 480 and that`s it.
Answer #6
you need either a vista driver or windows 7 driver for it go look on dells web site see if theres one there you can sort out rez by usubng the vga output and attaching a normal monitor to it at least you can see what ya clicking then
Answer #7
I can try dell again but I had gone there already and it asks for my service tag number or my model and it does not have any compatible drivers for it in vista or 7 b/c it`s supposed to be originally an xp laptop. Is there a way I can do a general broader search for a universal driver that`s compatible so it won`t have to be model specific?

you are stuffed if there isnt a generic driver for your graphics card you need to find out which card is inside then google it see what comes up i doubt you will be lucky though
Answer #10
Well I appreciate you trying. All tips and advice are greatly appreciated. If worse comes to worse and all else fails I`ll just have to reformat the hdd and reinstall xp. Thanks
Answer #11
How do I check for the type of card ? Do i open up my laptop and check or do I look in the bios or elsewhere?
Answer #12
To find out your graphics card, run dxdiag (from the command line). Then under display it should tell you your card.
Answer #13
Unfortunately a card in a laptop is not the only driver needed for proper graphics, the motherboard chipset has graphics drivers as well that would affect resolution. You might try visiting the Windows Update site and see if they list any drivers in the non-critical section.
Answer #14
For people that say he needs drivers that wrong.
Windows Vista/7 install sound and video drivers automatically. No matter what.
Answer #15
