What is the safest way to record desktop?

I know fraps can’t work in windows 8/8.1 anymore since DMW is not supported which I liked so is there any that is good but cheap to record a desktop with. Must be atleast able to record at 1080p.

camtasia works great for me i actually record alot with it.. very simple to use. records audio too no problem even one button on/off webcam video record too.. worth a check i upload alot of my emulator video game runs on YT with it. and i also record live tv with it too:)
