I’m using VLC media player and i love it…
it has it’s own codecs… so you do not need to download a codec pack….
VLC will play what you need, but for HD, K-Lite Codec Pack with Media Player Classic is more “fluid”:

Vlc doesn’t offer quality it sais so inside I’m sick & tired of people saing it’s a quality player it simply isn’t.For sound you nee to get J River Media Center
For video/movies Powerdvd .(other more or less the same windvd , splash pro ex)
my preference
vlc
kmplayer
mediaplayer
PowerDVD 11 Ultra 11.0.1719.51
Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre 5 (it upscales SD content to HD and converts 2D videos to 3D)
PowerDVD 11 Ultra (it converts 2D videos to 3D but very slightly lesser quality than TMT5)
K-Lite MPC + madVR
VLC
For quality i like NeuView Pro. Have a look below to see some examples compared with VLC

My personal favorite is Plex, but I’m not sure if there is a Windows port. Works well with HD rips.
to be truthful all the media players mentioned are good but the quality part is purely down to the file your playing if the film is not good quality no player is going to improve it matey
The KMPlayer

Never heard of it but the screenshots look really great. However, after trying it wasn’t as good as the screenshots but still pretty good. Perhaps even better than MPC+madVR and VLC. Will do some more testing using different settings and see if I can bring it to as good levels as TMT5 or PDVD 11
Still, check it out guys, you won’t be disappointed.
I use Media Player Classic with CCCP.
vlc all the way mainly, but for bluray disks i would use power dvd.
media player classic is great too, but i find not too good with bluray movies, of hd videos in general. Thats my view, others may see it different.
PotPlayer is very good for out of the box support for all codecs

PowerDVD 11 Ultra
I use Zoom player as my main player
it’s very flexible (Flex version is the best BTW) and can use the PowerDVD codecs
