Video editing

i am currently using sony vegas 7 to edit movies but i find it somewhat uneffective. i am looking for a more powerful program but not one that i need a phd to know how to work it.
I was looking at Adobe After Effects, would this work?
i tried adobe premiere but i couldnt import mpeg which drove me insane and i installed vegas again

Adobe Premiere is already a powerful program for video editing. Convert the mpeg file to avi to import it using WinAvi. Search in the Appz section.

make sure you convert it to dv avi not divx avi or xvid avi

you can find plugins to allow imports of mpg/avi whatever
i strongly reccommend you use adobe after affects not too hard to get used to and very good outputs
