transfering photos in vista

I store all my photos in one folder. They start at pic01 and then follow in order. In xp i just put my sd card in and the file transfer box came up and the pictures were copied into the same folder and followed sequence.
With vista i can select the folder but cant figure out how to make the pictures follow order ie pic02,pic03,pic04. it either creates a new folder or I have to manually rename them which takes ages.
Is there any way I can make vista rename them in the order that i want or is there any programme i can use?
Any help appreciated as its taking me ages to rename them all.
