Sound and Windows 8 – Please Help

So I plug in the headset and when i chat on Skype my friends can hear other sounds going through my headset. The sound options on Windows 8 is really confusing, so any help would be appreciated.
I have turned on the noise cancellation as well and still nothing.

It’s the same as in Windows 7. Click the volume icon on the taskbar and choose “open mixer”.
Mute anything where you don’t want volume (like system sounds I’m guessing).
