Should i overclock my Processor

August 8th, 2016

Hello Friends
I have Intel Core2 duo E4600 @2.40Ghz, I have no external cooling system installed in my PC except just an extra ordinary cooling fan. My other system specs are:
GPU: Palit HD 4870 1GB Sonic Dual Edition
HDD: 250 GB
RAM: 2 GB( Don’t know anything else about it)
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W
OS: Now XP but earlier it was VISTA
It is that when i play games likes GTA 4 and Frontlines fuel of war (in Vista) i don’t get good FPS at very high settings. Is it because of my processor or my overall configuration. I installed XP yesterday and haven’t tested FFOW in it (which gave me same FPS at high graphics and low graphics when i was using Vista). Or was it just the problem with my windows as i was using Windows Vista Black edition.
If it is a problem with my Processor please advice me should i overclock it or not. And if yes than to what extent as i don’t have a good Cooling system installed. If somebody is nice enough to tell me how to overclock than it would be really appreciated otherwise do not try too hard on that, i will also try my best to know how to do it.
Also i am now downloading Windows Vista ATI edition. Should i install it or stay with XP or some other.
Please Help Friends and even if you are unable to help. Thank you for trying to help.

I don’t recond you have any overclocking options in the bios plus, this board isn’t designed for overclocking mainly since it uses 3 phase voltage regulation.
Secondly the northbridge 945GC isn’t a famed overclocker.
Answer #7
Awww. Means i wont be able to run big games at this config. And thanks a lot mate you have saved me from overclocking that could have harmed my system.
Respects for you.

That’s the only alternative. Will make your frequency 3.2GHz and it will be a hella improvement. However you absolutely need a new cooler. It will work with the default one but I wouldn’t put my money on good temps or stability.
Answer #9
if you are just using stock cooling + 1 extra fan i wouldnt overclock at all.
I mean, im using 1x LARGE (half my PC size) fan and about 4 internal fans + a bigger fan/heatsink for my processer and it still gives me some heat problems when i overclock.

This isn’t supported by my motherboard either
Too bad i didn’t knew all this stuff while assembling my PC. Otherwise i would have had a better processor and motherboard
And one thing cant i even overclock a little bit like even to 2.8Ghz by use of some application without worrying much
