My PC can only play sound through one speaker

January 23rd, 2020

My PC (HP brand DX2200 microtower) can only play sound through the left speaker. I dont know if this is from the soundcard, or the line itself, but i tried using both the back stereo jack and the front jack and neither work. I have another one of these computers as well, and if i plug the speakers into the front jack, they work fine. Could it be a problem with my drivers? Or is there anyway i can force the stereo sound of my music into one chan, because its annoying when the entire right chan of sound is cut off, I only ever get to hear parts of the song then. Also, I know the speakers are good. I tested them on like 4 other devices and they work fine.

there prolly is, i think its a chinese AC97 type deal, but i dont know
also, i cant set mixer settings, i have limited options etc. does this possible mean faulty drivers then? would i need to use ASIO or something like that?
Answer #9
check your musicplayer and see if the balance setting is on the middle
Answer #10
yea the balance is in the middle, i use XMPlay, but i tried all my music on WMP to see if it had something to do with the player, but it was still only the left speaker

Have you tried another speaker on the system that isn’t working. If another speaker doesn’t work on there it may be a faulty jack. But since you say both front and back jacks don’t work this may be unlikely.
You can also try to:
1) Double click the bottom right icon in the taskbar with the speaker to open up the volume properties
2) Change the balance completely towards the chan that isn’t working (I think in your case the right speaker isn’t working)
3) Turn on some music in winamp or whichever software you use.
4) Try to see if you can hear anything from there. Turn the audio really high. If you can hear the audio faintly it may be the the jack is causing problems. But if there is no sound at all then you’re nearly guarenteed it’s a software problem.
Post back and let us know how it goes. By the way is this a new problem that just started now or has it been the same since you got your computer?
