My laptop does not like charging when playing games.

October 12th, 2013

Okay, so here’s my problem. When I’m playing games, my laptop battery seems to not accept a charge, instead I get a blinking light. I’m on a Toshiba Satellite A500, that’s two years old, and the battery seems to charge fine when not gaming. I don’t really know what the problem is or how to fix it. The problem just kinda spontaneously appeared one day and never really stopped.
Can you guys help?

Answer #1
so your battery is draining while playing ?
try running the game with the battery out
Answer #2
That doesn’t help the actual problem though.
Answer #3
try running the game with the battery out
what happens when you do this ?
it work, no blinking ?
Answer #4
May be overheating battery/laptop when gaming.
If it charges without gaming, but doesn’t when gaming then it can’t be the battery that is the problem..
Try as edwoodweb said and take the battery out and see if the lights come on when gaming.
Answer #5
The thing is, it happens without having the *Time* to overheat. Like, I open, say, Minecraft. As soon as we get to the title screen, a moment passes, blinking lights, lack of charge. I know it works when the battery is out but the connection with the cord is flimsy at times and if I nudge the laptop a bit it might crash, and I’d loose everything I was working on, and would have to reboot.
Answer #6
Does the laptop charge to 100% when your not playing games?
You can see the percentage left if you just put the mouse cursor over the battery
Answer #7
Yeah, it does. If I game too long, however, it dosen’t, or is at least flimsy in doing so. if I don’t touch a game, it runs perfectly fine.

sounds like you need to try it with a “known good” charger
Answer #9
Have. I tried a replacement charger, same problem. My original charger got repaired ((Had a minor fault in it)), using it now, and the same problem. I really don’t know what’s wrong here.
Answer #10
if I nudge the laptop a bit it might crash
it still doing this ^^
might be the power connector socket then
