Merge MKV Files

November 29th, 2020

I’ve downloaded a movie but it’s in CD1 and CD2 with .IDX and .SUB subtitles for each CD, how do I merge the video files and subtitles together to make it into one movie?

You can use MKVToolnix:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVtoolnix
Add CD1 then use Append option to add other files, do it in the right order.
CD1 – 1st sub – 1st idx (or 1st idx then 1st sub) – CD2 – 2nd sub – 2ndidx (or 2nd idx then 2nd sub).
Start muxing.
For subtitles you also have some options under “General track options”:
i.e. language (if your sub has only one language then you don’t need to change it I think), Default track flag – if you have more sub files with different languages, – you can set this to yes.
Forced tack flag – I think that it means it will force that sub file to run no matter what.
Anyway, muxing is really fast, so try what I said and test it a little.

If you don’t mind .mkv as an extension you can also do it with MKVToolnix.
Or you can try with http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/index.html
But don’t know will it work with that program.

With ,avi you usually keep the files separate but name them the same and have them in the same folder.
Your player (including suitable DVD players) should then read them OK.
Eg
My Movie.avi
My Movie.srt

If I use MKVToolnix to add .SRT file to AVI video, the video and audio quality will remain the same?

Yes, they will remain the same.
Just test it since muxing is very fast and you have nothing to lose if you try that, right.
