iPhone Help

Okz just needed some clarifying… I have at&t but have a crappy phones.. its one of those older flip phones you get for free.. but a friend of mine is selling me his 3g since he doesnt want it anymore.. but question is would they charge me for their data plan??? I mean i know iphone requires it but i dont want it.. i would just use the wifi. My contract currently doesnt have a data plan but would they automatically charge me if i put my SIM in the jailborken/unlocked iphone?

Here in canada I paid extra $100 to cancel the data plan. idk about at&t

i just dont like talking to them cuz 1. i herd they just will charge you cuz they sorta can do that. 2. I herd if you have a WIX block on it where (no data or nothing gets through) then it should work. I just want a iphone cuz my friend is selling it to me cheap and i need a better phone cuz the phone im using is crappy and crashes when i try to text people.
