How to effectively set up Wi-Fi network
August 3rd, 2016
Number one don’t even think of doing this with rubbish consumer routers. Get a Cisco Aironet (Not Linksys!) off eBay even the 802.11n models are under 200 bucks now. Enable the firewall and only open the ports you need rtp HTTP imap exchange etc. And enable qos As for the authentication go with WPA enterprise with MAC authentication get them to make an account and password on a comp beside the till .
Advantage of this compared to the rubbish consumer solutions is you can use solarwinds or any SNMP tool to monitor any bandwidth hogs and revoke the associated accounts, simple.
Any old computer with server 2012 will do for the RADIUS server just install the nps role google for how to use nps with Cisco for wpa2 enterprise.
Your gonna need a dedicated server computer for this task. Doesn’t have to be anything
fancy tho. And your also gonna need either a DD-WRT supported router or a wireless access point+additional Ethernet card (depending on which method your gonna be using)
Method1 – Debian & DD-WRT along with Chillispot, Freeradius & MySQL

Method2 – Easyhotspot:

Good luck!
