Firefox not connecting to the internet

January 26th, 2020

I got a problem. sometimes Firefox stops connecting to the internet but google chrome and IE still connect. I thought at first i had a virus so i did scans and i got an all clear then everything was working fine till i went on a certain tab. It was a thread on this forum and once its open then firefox stops connecting to the internet. Does anyone know why this happens and how to stop it?
Im running Windows XP and i have the latest Firefox
thanks in advance

Answer #1
did you try reinstalling Firefox again?
Answer #2
Take backup of bookmarks and passwords
and reinstall firefox i guess its firefox issue
Answer #3
also try going into help then troubleshooting and then try resetting it…
Answer #4
i have already tried resetting it and reinstalling it and still no joy T_T
now it seems its happening it Chrome aswell. Its like the thread has to many pictures or something and it just freezes in loading even though the circle in the tab is still spinning and it freezes the internet.
I had something similar to this with jdownloader where it was on the setting which kept on refreshing the connection or something and if that setting wasnt turnt off then the net just froze and i couldnt get it to work again unless i reset the PC…
anyone else got any ideas?
thanks for the help so far!
Answer #5
try restarting your computer? I have this problem every so often and that fixes it for me.
Answer #6
i have to reset the PC to get the net working again and once i open that thread again it stops the internet again. I would love to know what is stopping it as atm its 1 thread but if it becomes more threads then i need to know why this is happening
Answer #7
How old is your computer? Maybe time for a upgrade?
Answer #8
its a 2GB ram PC but i also have a 2GB laptop which is older and has no problems opening a web page. i wouldnt think the age of the PC would stop 1 webpage loading though XD
Answer #9
Can you post the specifications of the PC ?
Answer #10
You would be surprised to see, that some computers even if they are both similar in specifications, one might be slower then the other… How badly do you want Firefox to work? did you consider doing a reformat? As I am guessing that you might have more problems with other pages sooner rather then later.
What is the thread you are having the difficulty with?
Answer #11
im not at the PC atm so ill have to get the specs later on. I dont really want to do a reformat as i would have to try and find room for all the stuff i have on there XD
Ive noticed when loading it on the laptop its the pictures in the thread that its not loading on the PC. and when i try to close FF through the task manager on the PC it wont actually force it to stop. Ive tried using malwarebytes and thats coming up clean. Heres the thread http://www.google.com?t=16111644&

Well in my experience with FireFox you should really just stick to using just FireFox. I haven’t ever seen much good come from using both Chrome and FireFox. (blah blah blah opinions blah blah blah) It sounds like your machine is getting buggy and a fresh install in general should help clear a lot of that up, a fresh install, back up your files, and wipe it. Start fresh on the OS, though if you can I would recommend and upgrade to 7 if your machine can handle that. ( I am using 8 and love it ) Also what plugins are you using with your FireFox? Do you have Toolbars? Toolbars are usually no good.
Answer #13
i only just installed chrome to see if that would work when FF got stuck loading the thread. I dont think the PC could handle windows 7 as its not a new PC. its running XP on it atm.
the only extensions i have on FF are the ad blocker and IDM (but IDM isnt enabled) i dont have any toolbars as i know there useless and usually cause more harm than good
Answer #14
you mentioned that your PC was old…have you cleaned the old temp files and installation files and registry entries etc ever?. maybe that must be getting in way of slowing your PC up. Try CC Cleaner and clear all the leftovers….
easier if you dont want to install CC Cleaner is the built in disk cleanup util…give it a try and update…
Answer #15
Definitely check and clear that TEMP folder, Harddrive space can really effect performance.
Answer #16
ok i tried CCleaner and still no joy. It gets stuck loading the images as its says loading imageshack at the bottom. I still cant close FF or chrome in the task manager either.
If i stop pictures from loading automatically in firefox the thread loads fine and the internet stays. Its def the images then. just got to see if its an add on or not.
EDIT: checked the plugins and none of those are affecting it. this is really weird.
heres the spec
