Facebook update for iPad and iPod touch help

I updated my Facebook on my iPad and I can’t get the chat part to see friends that are on, how can I get it back? Thanks for the help.

Click the button with 3 lines in the top left corner to bring out the side info bar, then click chat.

I just get the messages in the inbox not the chat itself
