Edit brushes on canvas once saved

Hey people,
Im working on some graphic work with photoshop cs3 ext and iv placed a few brushes on my canvas, each on a different layer. My question is: How do i go about moving, re-sizing, colour changing each of these brushes? Because, once i tried moving one brush up a couple notches on the canvas, but it moved the whole canvas and not the brush itself, and as a result, it showed a checkerd box in the layers pallette on the layer i was working on.

Hmm,, select the layer with the brush that you want to move. Now the whole layer will move, so you can reposition it.
For resizing you should: select the layer -> Edit -> Transform -> Scale
