Does a scanner need to rest? – SOLVED

August 4th, 2016

Hi guys,
I just bought a scanner (Epson Perfection V370). I was wondering, do scanners need to rest? And if so, how often and for how long? e.g. Every 20 scans turn off for 5 min.?
Thanks in advance,

It’s possible to overheat a scanner so that they produce some little speckles on the image – like hot pixels from a camera.
But you’d need to do 100s of scans one after the other – modern scanners use a “cold” light, not much heat there.
And, even if you have an older one, you don’t need to turn it off, if you scan 20 or 30 with an old scanner, just don’t scan for 30 secs or so but leave it turned on.
Some of the dearer/better old one have an auto-wait system if they overheat, it; will automatically add in a 10-20 second delay between scans if you do a lot.
Realistically – no, you don’t need to rest a scanner, especially that one.
Epson ReadyScan LED Technology
With warm-up time of less than a second and efficient LED white light, ReadyScan LED Technology means you can start scanning straight away. LEDs are more energy efficient and do not contain mercury, which reduces power consumption and environmental impact. Also, LEDs generate less heat, which is good for sensitive or delicate originals.

LED = low heat
ReadyScan = powered even if you turn it off at the front, low watt standby.
So..no, you’re fine, scan away!
