DELL Dimension 3100 (3.2GHz Processor)

March 4th, 2023

When first switched on the DELL Logo appears briefly with the options to choose F2 – Setup or F12 – Boot Options. but then immediately the screen goes blank with a flashing cursor top left of the screen.
That remains the position for 4 to 5 minutes and then the Windows XP Logo appears briefly and then a blank screen for about a minute before a flashing mouse cursor appears and then the Windows Desktop appears.
But what was going on for the first 4 to 5 minutes??
Can anyone give me a clue as to how to fix it, or is there an application I can run to discover what is delaying everything so much.

Hard drive may be going bad…
Answer #2
sounds like your hard drive is slowing down, and you have alot of processors being loaded at start up.
go to start->run-> type msconfig
click selective start up and go to the startup tab and only get the basics. only your main drivers and that’s it. If that doesn’t increase. I’d say get another hard drive back up your file and reformat the one you currently have.
There is a good chance your your current hard drive of dying.

I’m guessing he probably only has 1 processor.

I’m guessing that he wanted to say processes instead of processor!
