Data Protection Act.

Hello, I’ve been given this assignment to do for college and there’s one section I don’t understand.
What effect would the data protection act have on a garage that buys and sells cars? and what would the manager need to check on the data and how its kept?
please if anyone can help I’d appreciate it very much

It would mean that they would have to keep all data of previous owners on a secure server or filing cabinet under lock and key giving only certain member of staff access to the information, and when the car is sold destroy any information they hold.
