Best Broadband Provider UK
January 24th, 2019
thanx in advance
Best service/Connection speed and price I got is with virgin media..
Feel free to wait for more advice..That’s just my experience with service providers..
The first consideration is your proximity to the infrastructure , that would ultimately determine what connections are available .
Make a shortlist and choose from the available ones in your region .
I’ve been with PlusNet for over a year now with no problems at all, but I only have 8g unlimited broadband. They do faster broadband but I can’t advise you on this.
I have to negotiate my contract on a yearly basis and after the first year was up I asked them if they had any offers available and they knocked £3.49 per month off if I took it out for 18 months. So, I’m paying £6.50 per month for unlimited 8g connection.
Forgot to mention …. that’s for broadband plus Phone line …. I pay the phone line separately as a one off each year of around £136 because it’s cheaper that way.
So. that’s £18.16 per month for unlimited broadband and phone line with free calls after 7:00 pm and all weekend.
^ That aint too bad
I pay about £33 per month for a 50MB connection with Virgin Media and thats exactly what I recieve 50Mbps (but sometimes there are ‘bad’ days)
I also get Anytime calls (free landline calls anytime)
There customer service is okay-ish
Before Virgin Media I was with BT, my parents used to pay for everything then.
It was about £20 per month for a 10Mb connection plus £100 every three months (around about, i think). No free calls or anything. This was about 7+ years ago. Never had a problem with them, never had to ring them up or anything.
BT have come a long way since then, now they have BT Infinity and these calls packages and everything.
If you’re all about downloading (a pretty ‘heavy’ downloader) go with the service provider that can offer you the highest speed with NO caps (obviously). That way you’re not waiting hours/days for TV seasons to download, or hours for movies to download.
the plusnet offer might at first sound good but plusnet limit upload speed to something pretty pathetic. you have to ask them to uncap it and give them a reason for doing so. not much use if you want to upload

no itll just be used for general browseing/phone via wifi and xbox360 ill check out the things posted above thanx to everyone who replied
Yep! The PlusNet I have is rubbish at upload speeds, but I don’t need that because I neither upload nor download very much. For general browsing is fine. The free router they send you is fine for my house which isn’t very large and the wifi can accommodate at least three computers (two upstairs and one downstairs), mobile phone and xbox running at the same time.
Their service (for me at least) has been exceptional. I had noise on the phone line on one occasion, phoned them up and the engineer was out the next day to fix it (turned out to be a problem at the BT exchange).
I know this might sound minor, but if you pay by direct debit they send you an email each month a few days before the direct debit amount is due to come out. I find this very beneficial because my bank account is usually fairly empty and I have time to make sure there is enough in the account to cover the the direct debit amount.
And of course, you can log into the PlusNet online account and do everything about your account online. There is also a forum which I found helpful when I first started with PlusNet because every moan and groan and helpful thing is there at hand ……….. It was actually a moderator on that forum that suggested I ask for any offers when I was renewing my contract because they don’t offer unless you ask ……. So I asked, and got the discount.
In the last few years I’ve moved around a bit and had BT Broadband at 3 different properties.
Technically, I’ve had no problems at all with the service. Currently on BT Infinity and it seems fast enough for what I’m doing, and reliable.
BUT
– the customer service side of things is utter crap
– they’re certainly not the cheapest (I’m not sure which is and have never bothered investigating but pretty sure I could get cheaper, but like i say, reliable, so I CBA changing).
Anyway, whatever you go with, good luck and enjoy!
I’ll second BT – a solid 6 megabytes per second download, unlimited, paying £22.95 + 5 (any time calls) + line rent (11.50/month, paid yearly)
OK, they have blocked some proxies and piratebay (but then so have other ISPs).
Not ha d aproblem with the customer service – I’ve called them on a couple of little issues and had them fixed almost right away (or next day when it needed a call out truck).

Me too solid service 14-17meg download speed and BT sport thrown in for free.
You just missed a good deal with Virgin on paying a average of under £18 for 50mb data and a phone line…(without a phoneline it would cost more) Whats the best provider depends on what you are looking for
E.G. Best customer service, best price, best speeds, torrents, site blocks etc…
One good thing about Plusnet is that unlike the main ISPs they don’t block out a lot of the sites, but if you know what you are doing then you can overcome these “blocks”
I’m on virgin 152 as I mostly do remux. Can’t beat it imo.
Hyperoptic, in London. 1gbps.

Zen – comes with a 200gb download allowance and a one month contract unlike some where you are locked in for 12 months

Why would anyone go with a provider who has a download allowance nowadays
