AOL Router Firmware

Are AOL routers able to take firmware updates from the routers manufacturers website or is the one loaded on the router already when sent to the customer a custom built firmware for AOL? I’ve searched AOLs site with no joy. The router is a D-LINK DSL-2680 Hardware Version: A1
Current Firmware Version: v1.11a
There is an update, Version 1.03 on D-Links site.

It’s a custom firmware. I don’t know if you can use the direct D-Link one, but I wouldn’t risk it unless it has added a feature that you really want (or are prepared to brick your router).
