Delayed Write Failed

I have been getting this error recently, on my external hard drive. Before this I try to access the drive and the Windows box for G drive freezes then eventually disappears. When I click on the drive again it says the drive is not formatted and do I want to format it, which I don’t do. I restart the PC and the drive is back but soon after I get the problem again. Any ideas? Is my external drive knackered? It’s less than a year old.

I had that on an brand new MSI motherboard set up which proved to be a chipset fault not the drive
