January 28th, 2020

So anyway my cat mangled one of my usb cords so i had to get a new one prior to that the thing charged and worked well so now this new one gives it a slight charge it but the battery stays on red.
so when plugged in it says usb device not recognized….
itunes doesn’t pick it up
and it just stays on itunes logo and usb picture and does nothing else
looked on google for answers and to no avail the threads were not exactly inspiring and just didnt work.
tried on 2 different pc’s xp & 7 and it doesnt work.
its not jailbroken touch its got official fw sorry for the long read.
edit\; its a second gen ipod touch it had 3.1.2 fw 8gb

Ok make sure the cable is apple. As most other cheaper cables are only for charging and not for usb connection
Answer #2
yup its an official apple.
Answer #3
Do you know anyone else who has an ipod touch usb cable so you can test it
Answer #4
nope
Answer #5
Try to shut down the device and then plug the usb in. See if iTouch gets on if so the cable is ok. And the problem is with your iTouch.
put it in recovery mode and try installing the original fw again.
Answer #6
alright ill give it a try…
ok i tried plugging it in usb when powered off and it went on booting up the apple logo and then back to the usb and itunes logo and usb not recognized on the comp and nothing in itunes , recovery mode is it by holding down home and power or something like that?
Answer #7
I was about to mention to try a different USB port then read that you already tried on a different PC. The only other possibility is that the cable is defective….hardly surprising since Apple’s USB cables and earphones are of poor standards.
Answer #8
yes ill probably just end up buying another sigh, or see if someone has an ipod, i mean if anyone thinks of another thing to try.
i mean its really annoying how it turns on and just stays on that image and not open in itunes lol.
Answer #9
USB is not the problem. You just need to install a custom firmware and jailbreak using Blackra1n.
Power off your device. Hold down HOME button (ONLY HOME BUTTON) and insert your usb cable(while holding down home button. (If iTunes doesn’t pop up, open it manually)
It’ll say that your device is in recovery mode, Click OK, Hold down SHIFT and Click Restore. Find the FW and select it.
Wait for the FW to be installed properly.
This one is already jailbroken so no need to jailbreak it again.

@Pitbull: If the PC doesn’t detect the iPod, then how is he/she going to jailbreak it?
Answer #12

but as i said it wasnt modified when i had it on didnt drop it or thrown it just cable was chewed (lol) let it die completely then 2 weeks after got a new one and it just doesnt want to agree with connecting…

Try putting it in DFU mode. That’s the last thing I can thing of, other than that your USB cable is ruined…
@ : sometimes PC doesn’t recognize it in normal mode but does recognize it in Recovery or DFU mode. I also had it once but I made my iPod flip myself. So it was kinda controlled.
Answer #14
Try putting the USB in the iPod only halfway in there. I’ve got the same thing with my BlackBerry and with some cables, I have to put it in, then pull it out just a very little bit and it suddenly detects it.
Answer #15
alright guys im going to try that recovery mode later today, ill post later on results – by the way thanks for fast replies!
