Power Supplies

January 23rd, 2020

I guess I should have done a bit of research before purchasing my 1500W PSU Just a quick question. A 1500W PSU… Does that mean it’s continously drawing that amount of power, or it can’t handle that amount? Basically, if I’m not using all the power, will it still draw it?

it can supply a maximum of 1500w. if the computer only needs 300w, it will only supply 300w

1500W!? that’s alot for a psu! you can get a lot of stuff that takes up a lot of watts, and you’ll have plenty of Wattage left to spare. e.g. if your PSU amount 1500W, your graphics card takes up 150W of power, your motherboard will probably take up 100W, CPU 50W.
So what the PSU does is just stores power from what the computer wattage uses. But you have a 1500 watt PSU so theres no need to worry because that’s alot of Watts!
i only use 400W so yeah…

Thanks . Precise answer, I like it
Not sure if you fully understood my question Cambo, or if I just didn’t read it properly.
Basically, I just wanted to know if I would be wasting money/power, having such a big power supply. Or if, because it says 1500W, and can handle drawing that much power, but, if the equipment doesn’t need it, it doesn’t.
I don’t want my PSU drawing a constant 1500W if my computer only needs 500 or 600W.
And before people say I’m stupid for buying it… I did so because it was only $50 more then a 800W PSU I was looking at. And it had very good reviews, so I bought it.
