graphic cards question

can i upgrade to any new graphics card or do i need a upgraded card with the same memory
you can upgrade to any graphics card IF they share the same slot. AGP cards can only be upgraded to AGP cards, PCI-E to PCI-E. Post your motherboard model (use CPU-Z if your not sure). Also its a good idea not get an oh so powerful card if your other parts (CPU, RAM etc) cant keep up. It’ll just bottleneck (limit) the performance
If you have a PCI-E x16 slot you can upgrade to any card, considering you have adequate Power Supply
i’ll give u my mother board soon since i’m not at home
all depends on your motherboard if it can take an upgrade!!!
I have a Gigabyte 8I945PL-G
it has a PCI-E x16 slot, so you can get the later generation cards but since the processor is only limited to a Pentium 4/Pentium D, i wouldn’t pick any card thats stronger than a HD 3850 for bottlenecking reasons
what should i limit with nvidia cards i’m thinking of getting a 450 GTX or something in the 200 series
the processor and ram is bottlenecking higher end cards. Even if you get a strong graphics card, games will only run up to what the CPU/RAM can dish out. If those can’t keep up with the graphics card, then theres no point in getting something that’ll end up only being used at 40% or so. Although a better alternative would be to save up for a complete overhaul so you can run the latest stuff
You buy new graphic card.
can you please tell me what nivida cards (series) i should limit to?
since the 8k series are phased out and 9600’s are almost non-existent, your best bet would be a 9800GT.
IF you cannot get your hands on a 9800GT
you can probably find a 250GTS, basically the same clock speed etc
but consumes much less power than the 9800GT and would be good for you if you have a low watt PSU
is pei-e 2.0 the same to PCI-E x16?
is pei-e 2.0 the same to PCI-E x16?
