Asus RT-N66U router Tx Power Adjustment

August 7th, 2016

Hello boys/girls,
I’ve bought the Asus RT-N66U router about 2 weeks ago and it works pretty good.
I’ve tried all it’s options and changed a few of them also to see how it behaves.
But there’s one option that I don’t know what really does:Tx Power Adjustment (Set the capability for transmission power. The maximum value is 200mW and the real transmission power will be dynamically adjusted to meet regional regulations).
The value is set by default at 80mw. I’ve seen on some forums that this options might affect power consumption and the reception signal of wifi. I’ve modified it to 10mw for a few days to see what happens but I’ve noticed that the router heats up the same(I think the power consumption is the same) and the wifi signal is the same (I’ve checked it at predetermined distances until the signal gets lost completely).
So, it doesn’t seem to do anything… I’m actually interested only in reducing power consumption because the signal is 100% all over my house (and the neightbours house ) ).
What this option really does? Are there other functions hidden in Tx Power Adjustment option?

Thanks!

Yep..
Click three times on "Apply". That's required when making a power change.

Boot it right up – that’s called “Neighbour unfriendly mode” especially with 450 Mbps as that covers 4 maybe 5 chans on 2.4GHz – completely screwing up their reception

yeah well, I found out that setting higher values might burn the processor on the long run.. so, now it’s on default.
