S4 silicon covers discolor after a few weeks…

January 30th, 2020

Guys, i have a white s4 and bought a white silicon backcover like this one:

but the problem is that after a few weeks(3-4) it begins to discolor to an ugly yellow/brown/kakkie color and it gets so worse and makes my phone so ugly that after a while i don’t have any choice then buy another one!!
But the problem is.. i can’t keep buying every (two)month(s) another case.. ok if i really want to i can but i don’t want!! Now.. i’ve looked to other colors but i don’t know.. the savest is a black one but the problem is.. a black case with a white phone is not that good combined imo and i just don’t like it! And green,blue,yellow,pink.. are really not choices so what am i going to do now!!??
I’ve even tried it with to wash with gel javel but it didn’t helped anything!
Can you please give me some advice?
Oh btw: book style cover is not an option because i already have one but i don’t like it to use!

Stop buying cheap stuff mate, get genuine products.
Answer #2
Im pretty sure that all silicone cases will get discoloured after a while, i think its because of the type of material it is.
Get a leather (flip) case or even better….a hard case

What??? Man.. do you think that is really the problem?? These silicone cases you don’t have original from Samsung right?? I didn’t see it till now.. if you did please prove it!

x2!! I agree!! I’m almost sure that it hasn’t to do anything with genuine or not! It’s just the color that is the problem! Even transparant ones discolor after a while! what a nightmare! *eek*

No i don’t like any of the two!
I bought this one together with the purchase of my phone and don’t use it.. :

I’ve tried to use it now and then but don’t like it to open it so much times/day!! I always switch back to my silicon case! It’s so easy and comfortable to use and i have also a screenprotector on it so it’s protected good!

I meant that i’m sure that the discoloring has nothing to do with that the case is genuine or not so a original from Samsung or not.
And that i didn’t see a original silicon case(only backcover) from Samsung self till now. The flipcover and the bookcovers are enough from Samsung but the backcovers not.

Just contact the seller. That’s your only option,

Try toothpaste on an old toothbrush..
Answer #8
You can soak them in a bleach and water solution overnight and that should remove the yellow tinge.

But do you know people that already are helped with this?
Btw: i soaked it now in man so now let’s ‘pray’.. pray for a better day.. uhum sh*t i meant for a whiter case…..

There is a fine line between an expansive silicone case and an cheap silicon case. Thats what is saying from what I read. An original case (not OEM) could cost 60 buck or more while an knock off China base could cost 10 buck for 2 lol. A white silicon cover would diffidently get discolor faster than any other color. Best thing you can do is to buy a higher quality silicon case. Is your phone get dirty a lots like you using your phone after eating without washing hand. Using chemical or similar and touch your phone/case?
Answer #11
Silicone discolours over time due to impurities (or staining agents) migrating into the material and there’s nothing much you can do about it.
If you’d like to stick with the case you have now, here’s a guide on how to clean it up a bit:
http://smartphonecases.hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Clean-and-Remove-Stains-From-Your-Bumper-Soft-Gel-Silicone-iPhone-Case
Else if you’re looking for a better case, I’d recommend you look into thermoplastic polyurethane/polycarbonate hybrid case like this one:
http://www.spigen.com/brands/samsung/galaxy/galaxy-s4/galaxy-s4-case-slim-armor.html
The case might seem a bit pricey, but it is worth it. I got a Spigen Neo-Hybrid case for my Nexus 5 and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the quality of it.

Depends on what cases you get, I use Incipio, their dual pro cases are awkward with buttons but are built like tanks.
My hands handle acids and greases all day and it standed up well.
Two layer protection, it seems to work. It covers the front bezel of my mobile.
Of course its a HTC One.

You could always try putting your phone (with the case on) into the microwave for 3 minutes on high and as soon as its out put it in a bowl of fairy liquid for 1 minute (let it soak), then as soon as you take it out of the ‘solution’, turn the phone on and leave it out in the rain for 8 minutes, and then wipe it down with a towel. This ‘trick’ always worked for me in the past!
OR
You could try these cases:

It might be time to move on to a better case then. I’d avoid silicone cases if I were you.

You need to use a stronger bleach solution.

Seriously though OP, hard cases are much better. Silicone cases are kinda rubbery which makes em harder to take out of your pockets, and as stated before they get discoloured (ALWAYS)

Before, with my other phone i always used hard cases in bookstyle but you get tired of constantly to open it man!! And underestimate the protection of a silicon case not.. in combination with a screen protector you’re protected well!

They are rubbery but i don’t mind it and they absorb the shock good when you let it fall.. .

I would personally carry a bottle of hand sanitizer and clean my hands every so often – depending on what you’re doing. Also if you are doing a job where your hands get dirty a lot, I would get a darker case for job hours and use your white silicone when in leisure time. Or soak it in neat bleach, then don’t wash it off, clean it with a tooth brush after you have soaked it and then wash the bleach off. Your case might smell like bleach, but bleach is clean, right?

There are cases out there besides silicone and flip-cover types. You ought to look into TPU/Polycarbonate hybrid cases as they offer more protection than regular silicone while being more aesthetically pleasing and having better durability.
Here are some examples to illustrate what I’m talking about:
The Spigen Slim Armour for the S4:

The Spigen Neo Hybrid for the S4:

You should definitely give these sort of cases a go rather than sticking with shoddy silicone ones.

No man you know what?? This is the very first BUT already THE LAST time i’ve bought a white phone!! White is such a beautiful color but the case makes it looks dirty and ugly… . The problem of the discoloring made me regret it that i bought it and i’ll never will again…
Answer #25
Beautiful phone yes but to bad mine is not that beautiful lol
I have an zerolemon battery and their normal case on it. Ugly as ~ censored ~ lol

Silicon is soft and will absorb anything and everything , by it’s nature.
I would really only use it if you want black.
The Spigen cases, as recommended, would be far better
