NETBOOK: Format via LAN [SOLVED]

August 5th, 2013

Greetings folks..
I was given my little cousin’s netbook which someone messed and completely destroyed the OS and now I need to fix it.. but there’s a small issue.
The netbook does not have a CD/DVD unit, neither it works with external USB one.. Overall.. I can’t get to boot anything else than ‘LAN’ or the ‘HDD’ (With broken WXP Installation setup)
Is there any way to format this netbook with LAN?
PS: I’ve already tried, booting from USB(External DVD Driver) and USB Windows XP (USB Windows Boot), but netbook just doesn’t let me boot from USB.
On the BIOS, it states 3: HDD(Of laptop), FDD(I don’t know what it means with that, no description either) and LAN.

Answer #1
Never ran into a netbook that did not support USB boot.
To boot from LAN you would have to set up a PXE server.
And FDD stands for Floppy Disk Drive.
Answer #2
Strange???? it should boot from usb, ive never encountered 1 that wont, which brand/model is it?
just a thought, check BIOS to see if USB boot is disabled

USB Support is enabled, USB Boot does not even exist..
It’s a Toshiba NB200

@SmAsHeDr: I noticed that, I booted from ‘LAN’ and it was waiting to find DHCP on an PXE-2.1 Software from Intel.
I came across a video on youtube where a guy started Window 7 (booted) installation via CD on his main pc, and then via LAN it was also able to be done on his netbook where in a few seconds just via the LAN the same screen (language selection of W7 Setup) from his main pc, also appeared on his netbook.. Allowing him to format the netbook, I’ve tried it with my own main pc and the netbook, no success..
I’ve read things for DFTP or something.. and rest.. does anybody know something about these? Or how it is possible to set-up a server and things for that ‘PXE’ called?

Nevermind.. It was just me being stupid.. Hahahah, The USB option appeared on the Boot menu AFTER connecting the device, silly me, opened the boot menu then connected the External Driver with Windows 7 on it..
Anyways I believe I can solve this now since it recognizes it .
Thanks everybody although!

This might help, is the original Toshiba recovery sector present? if so then
To recover the original factory image using the utilities on your
computer’s internal storage drive:
1 Make sure the computer is turned off.
2 Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard while
powering on the computer.
This will take you to the Recovery console and you will be able to reset every thing to the factory image
Hope it helps

Forgot this one,
Solved it later, netbook had gone over 10 people, and each one had done his attempt to repair it but made it worst, finally opened up CMD by the ‘failed’ recover mode, connected external USB-DVD with W7 Installation, found the directory and launched installation exe via cmd ..
Solved
