VPN for Tp-Link WD9980

August 7th, 2016

Hey all,
I have a Tp-Link WD9980 VDSL router, its a great router but hit a problem with wanting to install a VPN. I want to be able to bypass region viewing on Netflix for my smart TV (has a netflix app) so need to install VPN settings directly to my rouer.
Heres the problem, I can’t find any settings for L2TP or PPTP, under Network I can only find IPSec VPN, I messaged my VPN provider and then emailed back asying the don’t support IPSec VPN (its Nord VPN)
Does nayone know how I can install a VPN on my router or know of a IPSec VPN I can use who will provide me details to install to my router
Cheers

Answer #1
let me give two examples:
1. Joining a VPN – Using your computer (not router) to join a VPN which is not blocked by netflix. In other words, installing a VPN client on your computer so you can ‘use’ the vpn connection.
2. Creating a VPN – Creating a VPN on your router means you will be able to log other computers to your home network. I do not think this is what you’re after.
You can use add-ons on chrome/firefox that use VPN methods. such as Hola so you can watch netflix, I believe you can find others.
Answer #2
You don’t need to install it on your router. You can add it like a proxy. Redirecting your card through the http port and be able to browse the Internet without using a third party program or your router settings.
You can also setup it on the router control panel but this will redirect all the traffic on the VPN unless your router offer advanced features(like the ones present if you are using open-wrt or dd-wrt.
