Wii Softmod help :(

August 8th, 2016

Just got an old wii and looking to softmod it but I’m having no luck, I followed this
www.youtube.com/watch?v=__XQO0S-oOE
but it didn’t work, I managed to get games to start but they all get stuck on the loading or copyright pages… bootmii did not install correctly in the first place (when trying to open it just goes to a blank screen) so not sure if this has anything to do with it?
I’ve uninstalled the HBC now and the USB loader as I’ve given up. Any help?

Answer #1
Can’t bring up link on my phone but i can try to help, what cios did you install? When you say stuck on loading or copyrighted pages what exactly you mean? If you see the game initially start up it should be white screenwith a animated picture of how to properly use a wii mote, if you don’t have a cios installed, neogamma wouldn’t even boot a DVD, I just did my friends wii no problem about 2 months back, if I get home from work and problem still isn’t fixed, I can just send you all the same files I used.. I did hbc

Ye the wii controller warning page loads fine then the first loading screen of all the games it just stays on thoes pages I think 222, 236, 249 and 250, force ntcs…. no luck.
Answer #3
If you have removed the mods i would do a full reset(saving the game save data if you need to)then update to the latest firmware 4.3.Then i can recommend using modmii to get all the files you need to hack the wii all the latest ios/cios wads are there it even makes a custom guide thats real easy to follow,i have recommended this here for a long time now and know most if not all have been succesfull using it. http://modmii.zzl.org/
Answer #4
Its already on 4.3 should I bother with a restore or just go for it?
Answer #5
Don’t worry about restoring and all that etc.. Use that link gazman gave and just copy files to your sd card.. Really all you will have to do is install the cios that that link will give you, it won’t hurt installing a cios over a other one etc
Answer #6
What exploit should I use here? I was using the LetterBomb hack before.

Answer #9
Did you get the custom guide just follow it step by step and it’ll be fine been a long time since i hacked a wii over a year anyway. If you didn’t get the guide(should be in the copytosd folder)i’ll paste it on here.
Answer #10
Followed everything again still same thing just stays on the very first loading page of all the games?
Answer #11
How are you putting the games on your storage device? Try using wii backup manager it should also be in the copy to sd folder. Also what loader are you using i use cfg nearly all the time there is an odd game that it won’t load properly then i use usb loader gx.

Yep been using wii backup manager to put them onto USB, and also CFG it sees the game, it loads the controller warning screen shows, then the very loading screen of any game then just stays on that forever.
If I copy a game from a disc to the USB the controller disconnects when the game loads.

I think i had the same problem when i did my wii years ago i formatted the portable hard drive to wbfs and that solved it.
Answer #14
I have followed the tutorial here http://gbatemp.net/threads/modify-any-wii-4-3-below.171901/ and successfully modded 2 wii’s with no issues.

Ye did that few times now as the very first time it was saying that all the games were not a valid wii disc, 2nd time it was fine, do you think it could be the USB drive? As I’m guessing the game is trying to do something when loading but it can’t.
Edit: Think I’ve found the issue it was my USB Drive it would not formate to FAT32 only exFAT hmmmmm
Answer #16
If you opt for the newest version of WiiFlow (4.2.1) as a loader it does not require the formatting of the drive to WBFS, it can be used in NTFS or FAT32 (also Ex-FAT), just needs a WBFS folder.
Answer #17
Any alternative to WBFS Manager I think this keeps corrupting stuff

Wii Backup Manager as i said earlier it may be packaged in the copy-to-sd folder that modmii gave you certainly used to be if not http://www.wiibackupmanager.co.uk/

Download fat32format gui from ridgecrop. Format your usb drive to fat32 with that. On your usb drive create a folder named “wbfs” and in that folder place all of your .wbfs formatted games and you should be good to go.

I’m convinced this USB drive is not compatible even when formatted to FAT32 tried 2 others I have a 4GB and a 8GB they work fine so I’ve ordered a new 32GB USB which is reported to work fine

I have done many wii’s and always used wii backup manager to format the drive to wbfs and never had a problem,i know there are reports of doing this corrupting drives beyond repair but these are rare cases.
Answer #22
I probably haven’t done as many Wii’s as gazman but I’ve done quite a few and I never had any luck with formatting the drive to wbfs to be compatible with the modmii letterbomb hack. I always had to format to Fat32 with a wbfs folder on the root of the drive and then download .wbfs formatted games. Works 100% so far.

Ye this is what I’ve done the most stable I’ve found so far.
Quick question can I run ISO’s from the disc drive now or is that only with a hard mod?
Answer #24
Depends on how old your wii is the newer ones can’t a good test it saves burning a disc is to download and move to your sd a media player for the wii the best one is wiimc then see if it plays a standard movie dvd if it does then it’ll load a burned game disc, cfg can load from disc and usb.http://www.wiimc.org/
