August 14th, 2013

hi guys. im using ACER ASPIRE 4736z, windows 7 pro.
here’s the problem.
my pc got stuck, and restarted after a while in windows.and when it rebooted ,it show these msg ‘ no bootable device’ .At first i though, my HDD gone bad.but when i check in BIOS, not only my HDD,my DVD sata drive also undetected.
i took out the drives ( hdd and dvd ) and tested to the other laptop they are working just fine.
i put them back, and left the laptop for 30min,and turn back on,and my laptop can boot normally for 10-15 min, only to get stuck again.
i’ve googled to find the similar prob but fail to find any.
note: the bios is the updated one
help
..thnks in advance

Answer #1
It must be just the connection by the sound of…Make sure it’s connected firmly…..
Answer #2
tq for a quick reply ..
which connection ? if HDD connection, why DVD drive also undetected ?
Answer #3
Check all your SATA cables are connected firmly, they can work loose with vibrations and heat. Check the SATA connections on the mobo too.
You could try changing the SATA cables completely, they are relatively inexpensive, but, it could be a problem with the SATA connectors on the mobo.
If it’s still under warranty – get them to do it.
Answer #4
thnks guys ..will do that..
Answer #5
oops – just noticed it’s a lappy, same principles in my post apply – just means it’s trickier to open the lappy to get to the components.
*edit – do note, if you are still under the warranty – opening it up may invalidate the warranty.
Answer #6
He already opened it – he moved the HDD and the DVD and tested them in another laptop…
Answer #7
does it means my warranty is already void?
i only opened the hdd and dvd,not the whole casing..
Answer #8
But the HDD is in a small case of his own, which you needed to unscrew it’s screws.
Anyway I’m not sure that your warranty is void.
Just a week ago my friend got his HDD not working.
He and I opened the case, unscrewed it’s screws and took the HDD out to another laptop, just to make sure that there was nothing wrong with the connectors.
The HDD didn’t worked in another laptop also, so we returned it, and then he went to the store and told them the whole story. He had (and still have) a 3 year warranty.
He got a new HDD, which was connected by the store technician.
I’m guessing you should tell about the test you made.
You ain’t done nothing wrong, and I’m guessing that your warranty won’t void for that check.

thnks need4steer..i still have a month left before the warranty expired, i guess i just let them to fix it..

Answer #10
need4steer replied: He already opened it - he moved the HDD and the DVD and tested them in another laptop...
That’s not the same as opening it up.
I’ve got a couple of Acer lappies, the hdd’s and optical drives can be removed with 3 screws – you don’t need to open it up.
You would need to open it up to check the connections.
But as it’s still in warranty he can get them to fix it
Answer #11
Yeah I know.
As I wrote, my friend had the same issue, and his warranty was still valid.
