You just need a flashcard and a micro SD card. There are many flashcards to choose from but the best would be either the Acekard 2 or the Cyclo DS Evolution
Check the reviews here for Nintendo DS – Slot 1

The most popular one is the R4, but there are many many fake/clone R4 cards out there and chances of getting a legit one are slim nowdays
Also check around here, should help answer any questions you might have

yup like he said u need a flash card i have acekard2i for my dsi it works great
u will need a simple one i would reccomend acekard 2 ull also need a microsd card and a adaptor to transfer files to the sd card
sometimes the sd card comes with the flash card.
btw try dealextreme for the flash card thats where i bought mine from and they are pretty cheap there
heres the link for a acekard 2

the real R4 company simply vanished, all the companies out there now are just knocks off.
and yes, and yes acekard2 is ok, (dont get a acekard1 they are plain junk), if you are really tight for cash dealextreme sells flash cards as cheap as 5 dollars.
you need a good brand, since when certain new games come out, the flash card company needs to udpate their software, i have a cyclo ds myself (they are one of the more expensive ones) and it was worth every penny. (not much anymore since i got a dsi and had to buy a new flash card)
if i were you, i would spend extra and get one that works on both dsl and dsi.
this works in both dsl and dsi, if you get the acekard2 above (in bloodlydemons post), it will only read in dsl, when you upgrade your dsl to a dsi or you want to play on a friends dsi, it comes in handy.
Acekard2i

Please note that you will also need to buy a cheap usb SD card reader if you laptop/desktop does not have a SD card reader built in (my laptop does and i installed one on my desktop)
so buy the flash card (basically a ds game cartridge that takes micro sd cards (aka cell phone memory cards), and you are set.
download the software for the card (it depends on the brand you buy, since you are buying the card as well as the software), and put it on the micro sd card, along with the roms, your ds loads the software and then you select and load the games.

if u do happen to get a dsi i dont think they work for all firmwares though i think 1.4 works but ull need another ds to update the firmware and the firmware itself is not offical

if your dsi is 1.3, you can run the acekard2i 1.4 patch, or get a dsl and run the 1.4 patch.
FYI.
Alot of people who owned R4I got burned when 1.4 came out, R4I did not even bother to get it to work, they said were sorry please buy a new flash card……….. so R4I users got screwed since they picked R4I and had to shell out more cash and get R4Iv2, when all the other brands M3, Ez Flash, Acekard just updated…….. or came out with hacks to use on dsl or 1.3 or lower dsi……. just plain lazy. they did not bother making a patch, they just made all the new ones with the patch and had their old customers rebuy to make them more money, not good business, since what happens when nintendo updates again to try and block them? Nintendo got tired of flash cards so in 1.4 they tried blocking them, they expect their customers to buy a v3? since but most brands just released a patch.
