Program to break up one MP3 into 2 or 3 separate songs!

August 31st, 2016

I guess I don’t know the proper wording for what I’m looking for, so I’ll just call it a MP3 or FLAC editor… what I want to do is take some of these “hidden” songs that artists put at the end of their album and rather than have a 20 minute mp3, I can break it down into 3 separate songs. For instance, DMX’s last song on his Great Depression cd is 16 mins and 54 seconds long because he put 4 tracks on one song, rather than 4 separate tracks… and what I’d like to do is break that song down into 4 separate tracks rather than one huge 16 minute 38mb file… ya know?
I hope I’ve explained this well enough for you guys to understand what it is I’m looking for… thanks for any and all help!

Best way is to do it manually with an audio editing app.. There are apps to do it automatically but they are hit and miss since they listen for the silence at the end of the track… If there are any pauses in the song it will usually get split into parts and you have to start over…

Is there a pause or silence between songs?
If so, use “Mp3 Direct Cut 220” (or newer) – scan for pauses then export slices.
Works beautifully on long ausio books, so should work fine for you too.

yeah, there are pauses between the songs… I’d say a good 17 seconds of dead silence and that’s the problem… i don’t like those long silences, I want to break it up into 4 songs rather than a full song –>17 secs of silence –> another full song –> 17 seconds of silence again and so on and so on…. Is that MP3 Direct Cut 220 good for what I need done? thanks for you help guys

Try Audacity with LAME codec for MP3.

Yup – perfect for it
Just tick the box to tell it to remove the silence between cuts – it’ll end each song with a 1.2 sec silence instead of the 17 secs.
I use this for single mp3 audio books (i prefer smaller parts so i can stop them without having to scan to a spot (and bloody remember it!).
Trust me (I’m almost a doctor), it’ll work!
Load file
menu – special – pause detection (use defaults)
wait
menu – file – save split
You might need to tweak the pause detection settings – it’s a sensitive program.
