August 6th, 2016

Hi,i have a presentation due but i only have powerpoint 2003, i think the computor im going to use is ppt 2010 or possibly 2007. Will it be ok to work on 2003 at home and save it and open it in a later edition on thier computor or will i need to do something to thier computor/my file? thanks

Yes. 2007/2010 will read your 2003 file without a problem. If you save the presentation using the newer version, it will offer to upgrade the file – obviously don’t do this (or make sure to keep the original).

A newer version is backwards compatible. That is, if you are using office 2013, it should be able to open all the previous versions of documents or PPTs.
If you are using an older version, say 2003 and YOU wish to open a document created in a NEWER version of office, then IN THE NEWER version, while saving, select the option to save in 2003 compatible version. Then you should be able to open it correctly.
Since YOU are on an older version 2003, you should be able to open them in the newer version 2007 or 2010 or 2013.
