It is not possible to maintain the same size and quality in a conversion from MKV to avi.
Same size => lower quality
Same quality => higher file size
Why do you want to convert them to avi?
There may be other ways of handling the situation

Does you tv not support mp4 or mpeg2/vob? These formats will make it much easier to retain quality.

Buy a cheap media player that will play most files, no need for converting then.
I have one of these in my bedroom, plays everything thrown at it from externals/flash cards etc

Sumvision has brought out a version 3 of this, I think it’s released today.
I bought one of these about 3 weeks ago for the living room, and it’s the dogz bollocks.

Both of those sellers are good.

I agree with the Meerkat..I do the same and that is the best option…no hassle (and Bob’s your uncle)
AFA your LCD TV, if it supports mp4 then read my Help Guide (link in my signature) under: How to repack (without conversion) MKV to MP4 for Xbox, PS3 etc
Good luck

Answer #15
No mp4,mpeg2,xvid,even avi is not supported wt hell lol
i can only play those avi files those r direct downloaded from internet in avi format mean if i convert it by myself then it says not support content
how i convert a movie file to the same avi fomat as on internet to download >/?
Answer #16
It probably does not play 720p files because they are high definition. (1280 x 720)
Try using 640 as the width (or anything up to 720) and let the converter select the height to suit the file.
You will then get a file of 720 x 576 or less..
Now this defeats the idea if HD !! but they should play like the downloaded .avi files do , so would be interesting to try out.
Answer #17
So next time download avi files
Simple has that
