Laptop to TV via s-out gives me black and white picture

September 27th, 2018

What I have:
Toshiba Satellite A205-S4577 which I want to connect to Panasonic TV (tv has yellow white and red holes in which cables are sticked into, RCA I think it is called).
So, I stick this S-Out 4pin cable in my laptop and now I have on the other end only yellow cable. I take RCA cable (yellow/white/red) and put together yellow and yellow and connect other yellow end of RCA to tv and only get black and white picture…
argh damnit, here take a look at this Image
I to the wise one who helps me

Here's a tip from a Daniel W. of the UK that needed to change the setting from NTSC to PAL on a Toshiba Satellite running Win XP-home with an Intel Graphics card; if the video setting is not changed, the tele will only display black and white since the video format in the UK is PAL: "To find the correct tab to change the s-video options: Display properties; Settings menu; Advanced; Intel Graphics menu; Graphics Properties; Devices menu; Television menu; then change NTSC to PAL - Problem solved!"

So I finally solved it; in Control Panel=>Display=>Settings=>Advanced=>Monitors
Once you click on the TV button which switches the picture to the TV, you can then click another part of the same panel. It's probably completely logical to some people, but I never thought of clicking it. Anyway, that opens up a whole new load of settings from which you can select NTSC or PAL. My laptop is a UK one and I was using an NTSC TV, hence the b&W problem.

Or try to play with the connection But i’m sure if you go look into the video property you might find some setting to play with

an S-video to composite (yellow) end is what you have
what is your TV out in your video drivers set to
composite or S-video
try the other

DarkyCrown, thanks for help but I went trough all settings, tried every PAL and NTSC option I could find, its a no-go.
, will try and report back when I see.
edit: nope dont have that option, problem still persists

did the cable come with the lappy ?
the laptop is the same pin layout as the cable, not more holes ?
there are a number of “Mini-DIN” connectors/sockets and the are not totally interchangeablehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-DIN
I have seen cables that look the same but did not work the same
and the same is true about the socket, if it’s just plain S-video it may not be capable of conversion to composite

on the 2nd website I post the quote from , there’s some people that say that certain type of cable will only display B&W
I hope you’ll solve your problem , but I don’t think I can do much for the moment :/

exactly 4 holes and that plastic thing underneath them that insures the right cable is inserted, I checked that. um well I’ll ”steal” a cable from my friend for 1 day and see if his works…
unless it is tv, its quite old ( 10 years old ). um that tv lost its colour like a month ago and some techguy changed some tranzistors and said it will die again soon so new tv is on the way but that shouldnt be a problem since this tv works ok now, right?
