DVD rom problem

i have got a samsung dvd writer with model
TSST corpCD/DVDW TS-H552U
version US08
OEM code:US
OS:windows XP professional the problem is that when i insert a blank DVD the derive reads as CD Drive (G instead of DVD-RW drive (G and it shows
Free space:0 bytes
Total size :0 bytes
help me pls!!!!

Have you tried burning anything to the disc? Open whatever burning util you use and see what it says about the disc’s status.

i have tried burning too it goes for some time some where about 10-12% thn it stops sayin tht burnin failure….

in disc info it shows the same status as
Free space:0 bytes
Total size :0 bytes

Does it give any further error message? Also, most burning apps won’t let you even initiate a copy without first having a blank disc of the appropriate format in the drive. You put this DVD burner in yourself, I presume?

it gives no other eror…..im now smiling ….it allows me to burn ….afterwards it stops
this is the info tht nero show to me about the disc….i ve even updated the firmware….

Problems like this this are 99% hardware based, maybe its time to go ur ur neighbourhood radio shack and get it checked…

i think a clean install of xp will make it run .. so i had a clean install and im yet to check re writables
