Am I right in thinking that if I open a Dropbox account and I upload a file to it, that when I access that file from a different computer I then have to download it to that computer to be able read it.

yes, you are right. But the clue is, that if anything changes, only the diff is transmitted instead of the whole file. This speeds up synchronization.

I use it at home, it’s very useful to have all that info synchronised on each pc/lappie.
Also, if you get a new Samsung phone/tablet – they give you an extra 50GB space for 2 years, just incase you have a phone contract coming up for renewal. Also, when you recommend it to friends and they use it you get more space.
You can also send links of the files to people, share folders etc, I wouldn’t advise doing that on a board with large files though, you may get in trouble with bandwidth usage.
