computer keeps rebooting

July 25th, 2016

Windows XP SP2
Pentium4 3.0Ghz
1G RAM
512mb 8500GT
Okay for the past while my computer has just started randomly rebooting. Sometimes it will continue rebooting for a few minutes, sometimes it will only reboot a few times, sometimes just once. It usually happens at startup, after turning it on for about 5 seconds it will reboot. It also accassionaly happens when I have been logged on for a while. It doesn’t seen to matter if im playing a game, typing in word, or just on the dektop at the time. Not sure if its an overheating related problem when it happens the cpu is running at about 57 degrees celcius (which I’m told is about right), although the graphics card does seem to be a little hot.
So yeah i realy have no idea why it does this, though it is realy annoting to have it cut on me since it always chooses the worst moments Many thanks to anyone who can help me out. Josiah

Answer #1
probably because either your system temp is hitting a certain high degree (bios initiates auto shutdown/reboot to protect)
or not enough power for components (power supply not providing adequate power)
your video card requires a lot of power, when adding several hdd’s/optical drives, this could become a problem for your power supply.
i used to have this problem when burning 2 dvd’s at once, but i’ve upgraded to a 1KW psu, and it solved the problem instantly
Answer #2
Like said, chances is your power supply is dieing, one of your power rails is going down, also check on your ram and see if that is ok.
Answer #3
okay thanks guys an upgrade was on the cards in the near future anyway so il add a psu to that aswell
thanks again (y)
